Hi! I'm Gombessa (aka Sarah), a graduate student studying paleontology (fossil fish specifically but I love dinosaurs as well). I was born and raised in Utah, and am a desert rat at heart. I love the desert, and miss it dearly. I'm now in Kansas, and I love it here as well.

I love nature, being out in the desert or in the mountains. It's sad when people say that deserts are ugly. I see it as something beautiful, and I try to photograph the wild the way I see it. Hopefully that is captured in my photos.

My deviantArt page is a small sample of my photography, please visit my Flickr for a more comprehensive set of photos.

I really haven't had time lately to upload a lot onto DeviantArt, I've mostly been adding to my Flickr photostream ([link]), so for more of my photos, please check there.

In other news, I have been working as hard as I can on prepping fish fossils for my research. It is time consuming and sometimes boring work, but the Fish Maestro (my advisor) has a meeting with me on Monday, and I have to report on my progress. So I trudge on. It's really cool to remove rock and realize that I am the first living organism to see this fish in front of me in 200 million years!! It's pretty cool.

I am looking forward to this weekend, where I'll be meeting :iconhankinstein: for the first time ever! She is a totally awesome webcomic artist, and I'm such a fan of her work!! I'll be showing her around the museum....

And then I must also spend every free moment once again moving to another apartment (thankfully it's only from the 6th floor of my dorm to the 2nd floor of my dorm). But the air conditioner is broken in that dorm, so it won't be a pleasant experience.

Anywho, I must get to work now, so ciao!

Hey Sarah! I found this article on Yahoo! and thought it would interest you ^^ [link]

"There is nothing more mean and ugly in this world than to have a loving gift, a beautiful spirit, and a desire to give and share these things when there is no one to share them with." --Ribaldi/Rigoletto, Rigoletto (Feature Films for Families movie)
:icongombessa:
Ooh, that's kinda cool, but kinda sad when you think about the turtle dying a week before her clutch was due! Thanks for sharing that!

Sure thing!

PS. ammonites are very cool. My sis gave me a fossil of one when she went to Arizona. Speaking of my sis-- It looks like you know each other already :)
:icongombessa:
=D Yeah, I am a big Adam Ant fan, found her stuff that way, and was really surprised to see that she's into paleontology, too! In fact, she's coming up my way in June to visit the museum I live, work, and play at. I'm givin' her the grand tour of the place!

:iconboodokadi:
Oh cool! What are the odds of someone being equally nuts about those two things?

Yeah, my sis passed one her prehistoric creature obsession on to me as well. My early childhood was spent looking through her dinosaur books.
:icongombessa:
Well, that's good to hear! Not enough people have prehistoric animal obsessions! =D
Here's another silly coincidence that you might appreciate...my job in the museum is working in the "dead animals in jars" collection, and I'm currently curating a collection of....bees! As a matter of fact, I'm currently working on the family Apidae, so I love your Beegirl, she is totally awesome!

Oh that is cool!
I wanted to give her a name other than "bee girl." I figured the scientific names of bees would be a good place to look. I used to call her Apidae Dorsata but eventually shortened it. Maybe that's her full name? I dunno, there's really no logic to her anyway-- just a fun character to draw :)

I'm jealous that you get to work with animals (even if they are deceased) I'm a designer for a creatively stifling company.
:iconboodokadi:
Glad you like it and thanks for watching too!
:iconboodokadi:
Thanks for the fav! :D
